Die US amerikanische Mezzosopranistin Gabriella Guilfoil aus Olympia, Washington (nahe Seattle) wird für ihre berührenden Darbietungen und ihr warmes, reiches Timbre gelobt. Sie studierte Gesang an der Lawrence University (USA) bei Teresa Seidl und an der Hochschule für Künste Bremen bei Prof. Thomas Mohr und Prof. Krisztina Laki. 2022 beginnt Frau Guilfoil einen Master Studium in Lied Gestaltung an der Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover bei Prof. Jan Philip Schulze und Prof. Marek Rzepka.

Ihr deutsches Opern Debüt war 2016 am Theater Kiel als Roßweiße in Wagners Walküre, ihr erstes Festengagement 2016/17 in Osnabrück. Weitere Gastengagements folgten in Flensburg, Halle und Lüneburg. An der Oper Halle war Gabriella Guilfoil 2021/22 als Hippolyta in Ein Sommernachtstraum und Hedwig in Manru zu sehen. In der Spielzeit 2022/23 wird sie wieder in Halle als Marthe Schwertlein in Faust, Annina in Der Rosenkavalier und Marcellina in La nozze di Figaro zu erleben. Frau Guilfoil war 2022 1. Preisträgerin beim Wettbewerb Liedkunst im Schloss vor Husum und Sonderpreisträgerin bei dem Seattle Philharmonic Concerto Competition. 2019 war sie Preisträgerin des Internationalen Gesangswettbewerbes der Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg. 2013 bis 2022 war Frau Guilfoil Stipendiatin mehrerer Stiftungen, u.a. vom Neustart Kultur/Deutschen Musikrat und Bremer Senator für Kultur.

American mezzo-soprano Gabriella Guilfoil has been praised for her warm, rich timbre and touching performances, always leaving audiences wanting more.

The singer from Olympia, Washington, USA has found success performing in Germany, with highlights of Ms. Guilfoil’s 2021/22 season including Hippolyta in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Hedwig in Padrewski’s Manru, Alto Soloist in Beethoven’s 9. Symphony and the World Premiere of Peter Gotthardt’s Symphony in C (Opera Halle), and the Third Lady in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte (State Theater Schleswig-Holstein). In 2022/23 Ms. Guilfoil returns to the Opera Halle as Marthe Schwertlein/Faust, Annina/Der Rosenkavalier and Marcellina/La nozze di Figaro.

Highlights of previous seasons include her 2016 German debut as Roßweiße in Wagner’s Die Walküre (Opera Kiel). In the 2016/17 season Ms. Guilfoil was a member of the house ensemble at Theater Osnabrück. She has returned often as a guest to Theater Osnabrück, including a triumphant staging of Schubert’s Die schöne Müllerin with the Theater Osnabrück Dance Company. She has also been heard as Tisbe/La Cenerentola (Theater Osnabrück), and in concert as Zerlina/Don Giovanni and Marcellina/Le nozze di Figaro (Opera Halle).

A passionate Mahler interpreter, Ms. Guilfoil has performed Mahler’s Des Knaben Wunderhorn with the University of the Arts Bremen Symphony Orchestra, Das Lied von der Erde with the Nordwind Ensemble in Bremen and Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the Lawrence University Symphony Orchestra.

Ms. Guilfoil recently received the First Prize for Best Lied Duo at the 2022 Liedkunst vor Schloss Husum Competition, an Honorable Mention at the 2022 Seattle Philharmonic Bushell Concerto Competition and is a prize winner at the Castle Rheinsberg Chamber Opera International Vocal Competition (‘19) and the Lawrence University Concerto Competition (‘14). She is a scholarship recipient of the German Music Council, the Bremen Richard-Wagner- Society, the Anja Fichte Foundation and the Senator for Culture in Bremen. Ms. Guilfoil regularly attends vocal masterclasses, including The Art of Song with Prof. Charles Spencer and Prof. Ulf Bästlein in Husum, the International-Singer-Academy-Torgau, and with baritone Dale Duesing.

Beginning in the Fall 2022, Ms. Guilfoil will begin a Master’s Program in Art Song Performance at the University of Music, Theater, and Media in Hannover, studying with Prof. Marek Rzepka and Prof. Jan Philip Schulze. From 2019-2022, Ms. Guilfoil was in the private vocal studio of Professor Charlotte Lehmann in Hannover. Ms. Guilfoil holds a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from The University of the Arts in Bremen Germany, where she sang Carmen/Carmen, Prince Orlofsky/Die Fledermaus (Concert), and Lisetta/Il mondo della luna. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at Lawrence University, where she was a recipient of the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Grant and sang Dinah/Trouble in Tahiti and Anna Murraunt/Street Scene.
